Dear Parents and Carers
Congratulations to Ashton for his wonderful participation in Polding Rugby in the State Championships. It is very difficult to watch these events with my heart in my mouth as he made breaks and ran like the wind! For a second week I have had to walk away from everyone in the classrooms!
How else might a student get involved beyond the school gates? One opportunity in the coming weeks is the Public Speaking Finals which will take place. Students are preparing speeches at the moment to compete in this event. The competition will be held on the 9th of September in the hall.
A wonderful group "community conversationed" on Tuesday night. Get ready with your glitter and glow for a family event and we thank the parents who attended and are very enthusiastic in the preparation. Tickets will be available over the weekend on compass.
Book week coincides with this! We are dressing up and planning our "fabulous outfits!" for Thursday 21st. At the same time the Book Fair is on to support everyone to read!
On Monday this week we will finalise our Play J's program which we are reinstating in the school. Thank you to the families who are going to support the running of this.

Meerkat Performance
On Monday, the students at St James were lucky enough to attend a captivating Meerkat Performance. Meerkat Productions specialise in adapting children’s literature for the stage, creating vibrant performances that prompt discussion and debate. Monday’s performance was based on the book ‘The Garden of Broken Things’ by Freya Blackwood. The students were absolutely enchanted by the imaginative costumes, engaging prompts, brilliant acting, and the thoughtful post-show discussion. The combination of music, theatre, and literature made for an unforgettable experience. Check out our photos below!

Stage 2 News
We have been working very hard in Stage 2 this term! Please enjoy hearing about what we are learning.
History
Last Monday Stage 2 was out and about learning more about the local history of Yamba. They investigated how the breakwalls came to be and the old and new lighthouse, they even got to speak on the radio!
They also visited the Yamba museum, looking at the exhibit of 70 years of Yamba. We explored how Yamba has changed over the last 70 years, comparing then and now. The old film projector from the Yamba cinema was a hit.
Science
We have started our new topic for Science this term - how our Earth’s surface changes. We have begun exploring weathering and erosion, with more investigation into volcanoes and earthquakes to come.
English
In English, we have been working on the concept of Argument and Authority. We have been exploring the stories of Wandi and Ned Kelly and the Green Sash to develop a deeper understanding of these concepts. We have just completed our first task of working to convince an audience of our perspective. We are now going to be focussing on writing a speech to convince an audience of why sanctuaries are important and whether Ned Kelly is a Hero or a Villain.
