Dear Parents and Carers
I have been away this week at a school review and as I return today I was just saying I am not sure what to write about.
And... surprise!
I am having a visit from Will, Rudy, Lyla, Alessia and Sofia. What a joy to see lovely work in dictation at the end of a busy week. So nice to be visited by enthusiastic and proud learners. In fact, this moment of checking and celebrating learning says to me that what matters most at our school is that "that our good education is fun and celebrated." and that "we feel safe as learners and a a community." These ideas were shared by my visitors as I type.
As we are having this discussion, the Little J's team are moving past the window, gathering resources and preparing the hall for next Friday. The visitors to my room are excited for friends and siblings to start their journey with us. Asher, Winnie and Woody, and Lucy are one week from big school. Too exciting! Will's little sister is in the 2027 class (he wants us to know!)
These are exciting times indeed!
And then even before that!
Next TUESDAY 19th of August we will soft launch our Play J's. This was the most magical program when I arrived in the school and we have with been waiting to re-launch for some time.
Great parents have offered to support Ella and Sue in making this a welcoming opportunity for young parents to building a community which I know all current families will support!
We will start 9am and the "official" time we will finish is 10am but we have plans to move out to play spaces and visit other areas until "about 10:30am".
Lots next week- Play J's, disco, Book Week Parade and Little J's.
We all need a quiet weekend to prepare!!
Ann
Play J's is back!

Stage 3 News
Stage 3 – Exploring Characterisation Through Literature
Over the past four weeks, Stage 3 students have been diving deep into the textual concepts of ‘characterisation’ and ‘narrative’ through our class novel Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief.
Students have been exploring how authors develop characters through their appearance, words, thoughts, and actions, and how these traits influence the way we connect with and understand them. They’ve also examined the models of behaviour presented in the text and discovered how the relationships between characters enhance a reader’s engagement.
Our guiding question, “What is Characterisation?”, has led students to understand it as the technical construction and representation of any personality or person-like figure in a text. Using this knowledge – along with historical insights gained from learning about World War II – students have been writing a diary entry- taking on the character role of ‘Sasha’ and they will create their own imaginative and informative texts that bring characters vividly to life.
It has been wonderful to see students thinking critically, writing creatively, and building a rich understanding of both literature and history.

Stage 3 – Exploring Earth and Space
This term in Science, Stage 3 has been exploring the Earth and Space strand, focusing on Earth’s place in the solar system, the changes to its surface caused by natural disasters, and how humans can work to mitigate their effects.
Students have been developing a deeper understanding of Earth as part of a vast, complex, and interrelated system. Through a systems thinking approach, they have examined how Earth compares to other planets in the solar system, how human life has been influenced by the solar system, and how different elements work together to form connected networks.
Our Big Idea has been: The solar system is a vast and complex system, and Earth is one part of this interrelated structure.
Guided by questions such as:
- How does the Earth compare to other planets in the solar system?
- How has human life been influenced by the solar system?
- How do the components of digital systems connect together to form networks?
Stage 3 students have been investigating, questioning, and making connections between science, technology, and our place in the universe.
It’s been exciting to see their curiosity and critical thinking skills shine!

PDHPE: Friendships, Feelings & Fun!
This term in PDHPE, Stage 3 have continued to work with our school counsellor, Miss Laura Hamilton, to explore friendships, body image, big emotions, and the exciting transition to high school.
Through our units ‘Let’s Take a Selfie’ and ‘Managing Big Emotions’, students have learned how to recognise and manage feelings, build positive relationships, make healthy choices, and support their own wellbeing. There’s been plenty of discussion, teamwork, and laughs along the way!
We’re so proud of the way Stage 3 has approached these important topics with maturity, kindness, and curiosity.

Religion: The Bible
This term, Stage 3 is taking a deep dive into the Bible! Our Big Idea:- The Bible is the sacred word of God, guiding us to live like Jesus and to help build God’s Kingdom through our words, actions and choices today. We're exploring the different parts of the Bible and learning about the authors of the Gospels. We have already performed role-plays based on the messages of the prophets, and we'll be creating artworks based on special Bible stories. Students will also be researching "heroes" from the Bible.
